Practical Insect Identification
During this practical course you will build confidence with insects, and a few other invertebrates. The identification of pest species is the critical first step in developing an effective insect pest management strategy.
With over 24,000 species of Insects in the British Isles this can be quite a dauting task. You will not leave this course knowing all of these species, but you will known how to identify around 50 pest species.
The course will focus on pest species but will also enable learners to build on their non pest insect knowledge, building a greater understanding of the insect world to help promote confidence with customers.
During the course you will learn:
- Through practical and in field identification of common insect pests build you Id skills.
- Learning how to prepare insects for identification.
- Develop your entomological vocabulary to help communicate with confidence and read entomological text.
- Review insect anatomy to understand insect and how to control them.
- Review classification and understand how this can help you as a pest controller.
