There are more than 24,000 species of insect in Britain. The vast majority of insect species are not classed as pests and do not occur in or around human habitation. There are however a number of species which are found and indeed thrive around human habitation and it is these species which on occasions can require some form of control.
An important part of any insect control strategy is to identify the species. There are many similar looking species and Mis identification could lead to an incorrect or unnecessary treatment being implemented.

Tips to increase the likelihood of a successful identification:
- Please send insects in crush proof containers
- Send more than one of each sample
- Provide some information about where, when and how the sample was found.
